Saturday I took myself to lunch at the Claremont and wandered around the used bookstore (they have a stack of the latest Harry Potter for $21.95 Canadian if anyone's in need) and read a lot (including The Salmon of Doubt, which is wonderful and made me very sad all over again that Douglas Adams died). Saturday night I spent ages getting to sleep -- my brain seemed determined to bring up things that make me sad and/or upset and/or angry, like my dog dying and The Crush That Shall Not Be Named, and I wasn't remotely tired, so I kept on getting up and trying to tidy and getting sort of tired and going back to bed and starting the whole cycle over. Ugh.

Sunday I slept latish (no wonder) and tidied (not completely, but enough to feel that I'm well on the way to a tidy apartment for the first time since I went to Scotland -- some weeks "slatternly" is the only way to describe me). Then I did accounts. YEEEARGH. I am Poor, and my line of credit is definitely getting above itself. Strict fiscal diet for me from here on in. No more frivolous spending of any description and I shall live on bread and water. (OK, not quite that bad, but I shall think quite hard before buying expensive cheese.) I've put my credit cards away and will try to operate on a cash-only basis from here on in (take out a certain sum at the beginning of the week and when it's gone, it's gone).

On the plus side, merger and consequent restoration of our salaries means I will have slightly more disposable income to be going on with as of next paycheque. Slightly.

Wandered out of the apartment rather late this morning, bus was rather slow especially around my stop; finally got off to discover a line of riot police blocking off St-Laurent (luckily in the opposite direction to the one I was going in). GAAH. All to do with the WTO protest I suppose. This may sound reactionary, but could these protestors not find some more effective way to get their message across than by smashing other people's cars?

(ETA: that said, the fact that the arrestees are apparently being charged with "participating in an illegal demonstration" makes me very queasy. Illegal how?)
