The sports guy came on and was talking to the host about the Expos pitcher hitting Sammy Sosa in the head with a fastball and it went something like this:

"What is this? Somebody does something you don't like, you throw something at them? What kind of message is that to send to kids?"
"That's what Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman have been showing us for years."
"That's what I mean. What kind of example are we setting our kids? What kind of role models do they have? People never throw things in Jane Austen novels."
"Well, maybe Emma. She was an immature little thing at the start of the novel. She had a lot of growing up to do."
"That's true. She got mad at Sammy Sosa and hit him in the head with a parasol."
"But she did it under the name of George Eliot."

Also, there was a pithy clip of Sen. John McCain demolishing some guy asking for billions more dollars for Iraq in about 3 sentences -- I may be getting this all wrong, because I was brushing my teeth, but it was something along the lines of:

"Can you tell me when additional UN troops will be deployed in Iraq?"
"Not exactly..."
"A matter of years?"
"I highly doubt it'll be years."
"Your precision does not satisfy me. Thank you."

Squeeesh.

Y'know, if I don't move to Scotland, I may have to move to Montreal...unless, does Kevin Sylvestri do your sportscast as well?

Yeah, he does. Would that be a problem?

No, it just means that I don't have to move to appreciate the goodness of a sportscaster who can make jokes about George Elliot!

That's true. But you are missing out on Dave Bronstetter. I didn't realize how good he is until he went on vacation.

I so miss his banter with Andy Barry. . . We still get Kevin's sports casts out here, but they tend to not have QUITE the same spontaneous quality. They are still damned good though. AND, he usually fills in for the Vancouver Afternoon Show house for a month in the summer, so we do get to hear him. He is awfully good. Can grate, but generally good.
