Back at work already. Where did the weekend go? Mind, I lengthened it considerably by setting off from Toronto about half past 6 yesterday evening, then reading all night once I finally got back to my (paint-fume-ridden*) apartment. In the interest of full disclosure, this was the book. She specializes in men who appear to be utter bastards but are deep down incredibly tormented and need the right woman to make them happy. I find them quite disturbingly addictive. (They're well-written and funny, if it helps.)

In unrelated news, The Crush That Shall Not Be Named is back in town. But I will be cool and friendly and chipper, oh yes. In fact I already have been, but it's easier on MSN. Wish me luck...

In other unrelated news, I just had a spicy sausage inna bun from Slovenia. Heaven. Not a vitamin in sight, unless sauerkraut has vitamins, but oh so good. This may be heretical, but the Krispy Kreme donuts -- while excellent, especially when warm -- don't really do it for me. I mean, they're really, really good, but they're just donuts, not crack. Whereas the cured animal byproducts... mmmmmm. Nirvana, I tell you. Inna bun. With mustard.

Yet another flying visit to Toronto, managed to see many people but not everyone. Better luck next time. I have to start getting to town earlier -- I only seem to manage about a day and a half which is NOT enough. Didn't make it out of here until 2 p.m. Friday which might have been the problem. L and I went for dim sum Saturday to celebrate her birthday and then shopped; I was aiming for fiscal prudence but wound up with 2 new sweaters anyway. (But they were really great deals! And they go with my 2 new pairs of pants so now I'm all set for fall. And I was tempted by boots, but resisted.)

BYOC** party Saturday night was excellent, not only my first party at my cousin Dan's house -- he throws a mean party but I've never been in town for one until now -- but full of people I'd never met before. And, of course, lobster. I felt cruel, but I ate mine anyway -- luckily I didn't need to put him in the pot myself.

Ho hum, back to work. Next weekend will be my last in Montreal for a month -- it'll be August all over again, only with a bit more vacation.

*I haven't mentioned this, but lately every time I come home the front hallway and my door and hall look different. They're trying out different paint colours in the hall, and they appear to have stained my door dark again -- why, I'm not sure, because it's the same colour it was to start with now. Also, they have taken down the false ceiling in my entryway and replastered the cracks and, now, painted. It's an improvement, but I'm sure it's all in aid of screwing more rent out of me.
