I just realized I haven't posted in 2004 yet. Shocking! It's because I've been trying to (a) have a life and (b) actually do what I'm paid for while at work. We'll see how long this lasts. For someone who didn't make any official New Year's resolutions I certainly have a lot of highfalutin' notions about what I'm going to accomplish this year.

My nice boss passed a freelance copy editing contract my way. The bad news is it's a business plan all written in marketing-speak and I'm not 100% sure how much I can change. Oh well. I'll make it all nice. Not just now or here though, I need to eat something and I'd rather be home. However, will just post whatever comes into my head now, as a way of clearing the decks.

I'm almost all moved over to my new desk by the window (need to do some cleanup on my old desk, which is next door, and put away some of the piles of paper left behind by Alex and Stephanie who had it before me). This caused some consternation because I didn't let everyone know I was moving, and the sight of my dismantled old desk was alarming. I like it here -- it's sunnier (well, when there's any sun) and the view is different, although the window frame blocks my view of the park.

Had brunch with Heidi and Rock on Sunday before they flew back -- they were not looking forward to the trip as it was into Dulles (plus, Rock being born in Pakistan apparently goes through a long tortuous immigration process any time he crosses an international border). Great to see them and catch up. Heidi and I agreed that we would stop beating ourselves up over our lousy correspondence skills and just enjoy getting together when we DO get together. They gave me a Christmas present (more guilt as I didn't get them anything) so now I have my very own mini Zen garden, which I had always admired at the checkout counters of bookstores but thought was too frivolous to buy for myself.

I was all set to do a cleaning blitz on my apartment after that, but just as I was reading the paper and gearing up to it the power went out. Fate does not wish me to have a clean floor. I went over to Kelly and Jean's instead, and they fed me, which I thought was very noble considering they were probably planning a quiet evening in. Then when Kelly drove me home the power was back on, so I put together my bedside table (yay! storage! a drawer! shelves!) rather than going to bed like a sensible person. CBC had some nifty tales of the supernatural on, but I managed to miss the climaxes of both because the phone kept ringing.

Dinner with Karen and Esther in the wilds of Lasalle last night, Karen made Swiss fondue which was entirely delightful. Long chat about the whys and wherefores of marriage (Karen being unofficially engaged and planning her wedding is interested) -- I ranted for a bit about the circumstances under which I would consider getting married and how some people don't do it for the right reasons. Much I know about it, of course. It also turns out Esther and I have similar Dating Issues, in that we think about how to break up with the guy if we turn out not to like him while we should be enjoying the first date. Must work on this. Karen goes back to Germany in a couple of weeks. It was great to see her -- I miss her energy, she's always so positive and enthusiastic about everything.

I was going to go to a movie tonight but the Document has put paid to that. Shall find something simple to cook and go home.

Would anyone be interested in a community called lazy_cooks?

If you can find ways for me to be an even lazier cook, I'm in. *grin*

see, you became a paid member because, and I believe I quote here "you should support the place where you spend so much time" and then you stop posting. This, my friend, is irony.

I'd be interested...so long as it was about easy cooking and not about, you know, hiring them or anything.
