Friday night: followed Fiona around to 2 friends' birthday parties, where I knew nobody, but people were very nice and graciously welcomed me. Thanked them for allowing me to crash their parties. Drank a martini. Drank a Cosmopolitan. Drank some red wine with a strong resemblance to battery acid. Went home early but well partied.

Saturday: parents phoned at 9 a.m. I have no clue what we talked about. Mary came by at 10:30 to do her taxes, which took forever, because my computer is slow and she was using the step by step method (it occurred to me later that it would've been cheaper for everyone to use the Web version of QuickTax, but oh well). Dashed out to get [livejournal.com profile] keyef's birthday present. Met [livejournal.com profile] moonlightjoy and [livejournal.com profile] keyef and drove down to the Son et Lumiere at Notre-Dame basilica, which turned out to be about the history of the basilica, which was quite cool if rather cheesy in spots. And it is a lovely church. Went to a creperie whose name I forget and ate (Caesar salad, then crepe with chestnut puree, ice cream, and creme Chantilly in my case). Yum.

Didn't get to sleep for ages because people upstairs were having a party, and because I had had coffee. I am turning into my mother: coffee after, say, noon has started to make me unable to sleep. Noooooo!

Sunday: Read large chunks of Foucault's Pendulum. So much better than The Da Vinci Code. I know they are trying to do different things, and it's not an entirely fair comparison, but I do wish Dan Brown had done a bit more research and thrown in a few more red herrings and not had quite such a transparent plot. Did accounts, worked out that if I keep up my current standards of fiscal responsibility and apply my tax refund to my line of credit I may actually be out of debt before too long, wondered where on earth my disposable income goes. Washed my hair extremely thoroughly (the secret seems to be conditioner before shampoo, then leave-in conditioner before drying it. At least this week). Then went to the St. Matthew Passion at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul -- beautiful, and what an undertaking! 2 choirs, 2 orchestras, 6 soloists, and a shade under 4 hours. We were in the back row of the balcony, so had a great panoramic view. Met [livejournal.com profile] rottenfruit afterwards -- [livejournal.com profile] moonlightjoy had correctly picked her out of the choir!

Then food (Cafe l'etranger), home (Josie and I walked as far as Atwater past a really unnecessary number of strip clubs), sleep.

This morning: [livejournal.com profile] crankygrrl called me at 8 a.m. and was perky, which was disturbing. But at least I was awake and brushing my teeth! Renewed my membership at the Y, got a gift (it's a cute little first-aid kit, I can take it backpacking if I go backpacking again), walked part of the way to work. Of course, it was snowing, so not quite as pleasant as it could otherwise have been... but hey.

And thus ends my recap. Budget sheets will drive me to suicide, or would if everyone else wasn't in the same boat. At least all my projects seem to be in the black.
