no place for the numinous
Jul. 8th, 2003 12:26 pmInteresting article from A.S. Byatt (thanks to
raithen) that articulates a lot of what I have vaguely felt about the pleasures and shortcomings of Harry Potter. Maybe a little heavy on the shortcomings and a tad overcritical of those of us who enjoy the books anyway. I thought there was no call for the gratuitous swipe at Georgette Heyer, but the main point -- I have read J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis and Susan Cooper and Alan Garner and Ursula K. Le Guin and you, J.K. Rowling, are none of the above -- is well taken.
But she likes Pterry.

In unrelated news, I'm having moments of kick-ass project-managerity this week. Not sure why. PMS? The sudden realization that I owe it to myself to do a decent job at what I'm paid to do?
