[livejournal.com profile] crankygrrl's most noteworthy swearword this weekend:

"Fuck. Fuck-a-ducky-poo-poo."

To our startled looks:

"Well, I remembered halfway through that I was trying to cut down on swearing."

Good weekend but FAR too short and FAR too little sleep. I hope [livejournal.com profile] monkeycommando's wife wasn't mortally offended by my offering her a hot dog -- it's just that my brain was moving in the "how many hot dogs does everyone want?" track, which is parallel to and not really within sight of the "Sarah is a vegetarian" track.

Still, we nearly won at Trivial Pursuit.

Around about Gananoque, always a hot spot for dark nights of the soul, I decided I really need to move back to (or near) Toronto. This seven-hour-drive-to-the-cottage thing is crap.

some of you know already, but PLEASE keep a corner of your thoughts for [livejournal.com profile] raithen, who is under evacuation alert, her family and friends and animals, and all the people in Kelowna who are affected by this fire.

And pray for rain. Dammit, we have plenty over here...

Updates

Well, that was a waste of a day. When will I learn that when I'm not getting anything done, it is futile to stay later at work in hopes I'll discover my work ethic?

I'm trying to reach the Aeroplan call centre to discuss changing my ticket to go see [livejournal.com profile] raithen. Which I am torn about -- on the one hand I want to go NOW, and feel I could probably be of some use, and a tiny unworthy part of me quite wants to see the fire, but on the other hand everyone is stressed out and it won't be much of a vacation, per se, and I have a huge project that really needs concentrated attention for the next couple of weeks, which is just when I'm supposed to be gone.

Grr.

If I ever get off hold, we'll see what can and can't be done, anyway. Let's hear it for the redial function.

Flight is cancelled. Very easy as it turns out -- they have a policy in place for travel into the Kelowna area at the moment. Have to rebook and complete travel by December 1st. The woman I spoke to was really nice -- she's in Vancouver and hopes [livejournal.com profile] raithen et al. are OK.

So that's that... well, see previous post for conflicted feelings. But I'm gonna come to Kelowna before December and we are going to:
a) find a place that serves enormous martinis
b) ride
c) support the local economy
d) gossip like mad
e) have a GREAT TIME!

On to WestJet.

The WestJet on-hold track is a lot livelier than Aeroplan's. Just heard this:

"What kind of bee can't be heard clearly? A mumblebee! Get it?"

[Update: "How do you stop your dog from digging in your back yard? Take away his shovel. Get it?"]

So I now have a credit with WestJet to be used within the year.

Ta da.

Off home I go, I guess.

Link snurched from [livejournal.com profile] ivilon, and posted here for your edification and to distract me tomorrow: Weasel Breweries

Go on, you know you want to. They have Star Trek haiku!
