Jan. 29th, 2006 05:45 pmOn Friday my boss came in and said "No links. That is my decision and my decision is final."
I argued, of course, but in vain. Colleagues sat on the other side of the divider thinking "should we say something?" but on the whole best that they didn't. He left, there was a continued silence, and then a tentative "Robin...? Do you need a hug?"

raithen's advice, I will bend my energies to principled and rational links instead. I'm still a bit irked, but it won't hurt the site particularly -- the links he objected to were going to be helpful but not essential. We publish to the dev site on Monday. Can't believe it's nearly done!
Thencrankygrrl called to see if I wanted to go to a movie, and I left work and got to University Ave. and saw the street in front of what I thought was Mount Sinai but was, in fact, the insurance building on the next block absolutely FULL of fire trucks and ambulances -- it was the response to the fallen elevator. Scary. CityPulse cameraman told me what was going on and assured me nobody was dead. Walked down to the Paramount. Cranky and I saw Tristan + Isolde, which I liked but ( spoilerish ). And then we went and had drinks and argued about the new Pride & Prejudice movie, and I really am going to post about why I hate it so, even though it makes me feel curmudgeonly.
Yesterday: coffee at Jet Fuel, all-day breakfast at aunt and uncle's, spent the afternoon shoving sound insulation into Jen's ceiling. Quite satisfying because I could actually see progress, and I used up one whole bale of Safe 'n' Sound and started on another. Except that fragments kept falling on my face, which was itchy. (The Punkin Chunkin contest came up at one point, although I didn't remember the name -- must send that link out.) Dinner again at aunt and uncle's, worked on a 2000-piece jigsaw puzzle which looks as though it will take some time, drinks and dessert with Jen and Cranky and S (I believemonkeycommando was babysitting stayed home with the baby -- really, I should know better). (ETA: and then I went home, after calling 911 on an unpleasant man who was hassling his girlfriend on Queen St. He called me a loser. Wow, does that ever smart. She got on the streetcar and it was all anticlimactic, fortunately, but she thanked me for asking if she needed help so I feel it was Not In Vain. Forgot to post that for some reason.)
Today: brunch with family, then came home and spent most of the day in the bath (what can I say, it's grim and rainy out and I had a bunch of Bath Ballistics to try) turning into a prune and reading an Emma Lathen that Jen had bought (set at the Lake Placid Olympics, and I'm getting better at spotting whodunnit) and also Rite of Conquest by Judith Tarr, which I really enjoyed.
I should go throw some stuff out.
