Last night we had our painting party. Jen's aunt Jane, her parents, [livejournal.com profile] stilldeepwater and M, [livejournal.com profile] crankygrrl, Shannie, and Joanne all turned up and did yeoman service -- we got Jen's bedroom, my living room, and 3/4 of the stairs and hallways painted. And we ran out of primer. This is amusing because my dad bought many, many tubs of primer back at the very start of the process; we've been tripping over them for months and we didn't think we'd ever get to the end. Now we have -- with three rooms and some stray walls left to go. Disconcerting.

Turns out we're still very happy with our paint colours. Jen's bedroom is Wedgewood Grey with a Cloud White ceiling. My living room is Mill Springs Blue with a Cloud White ceiling -- I was worried it would be too dark, but it's a really nice colour, very calming, and will look amazing with my curtains. Hallways are Wyndham Cream, even the ceilings, which made it easier to slosh paint around without worrying too much about the joins. I'm still trying to figure out what colour to paint my dining room, but it will be easier now all the rooms around it are painted.

We fed our helpers beer and pizza and some wine or pop for them as wanted it. My uncle drove me home -- I got in at 11 p.m. on the dot, and couldn't believe it was only 11, I was so exhausted. I had splotches of Mill Springs Blue all over me, even places I didn't spot until I got up this morning. A satisfying evening, even though we forgot to take pictures. (Maybe we can get our helpers to come back and pose with paint rollers.)

I can't believe we ran out of primer.

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] cretkid!

For this birthday, I think you should get a dog. ;)

Hope it's a fabulous year!

My aunt reports:

Today for lunch, John and I had French bread, cheese, meat and cucumber.

Yesterday evening, Robin and Jen cleverly held a painting party. Participating were Jane S, Joanne, Shannon, Louise, Martin, Kathryn--and maybe some others I've forgotten. Did Jen's bedroom, Rob's living room and three-quarters of the stairs and hallways. Jen and Robin sent out a note of great thanks.

John was there--resplendent in his carpenter's braces--and bought stuff and worked on the box around Jen's ducts. William worked on bay windows.

Today, William worked on bay windows and John worked on the box around Jen's ducts and bought stuff.

The House has a peony blooming in the back garden.
Cheers, Helen
I had lunch with my mother, who was down from the cottage for her physio appointment, and we discussed plans for the house. It's looking like Stuff (if not People) will move in this month! Yay!

The poster for the conference just arrived!

8' x 4'. It's big. Artist Jen is stressing out slightly on the grounds that her brains were never meant to be blown up to that size. Let me rephrase that -- the brains she drew were never meant to be blown up to that size. I assured her that if any neurologists come along and say "Hey, that convolution's wrong!" I will smack them.

Also, the two laptops and all the brochure stands and postcards and bookmarks and things fit nicely into my new wheelie suitcase (Air Canada carry-on size). Now I just have to figure out what to pack my clothes in.

In which the wisdom of attending to my to-do list is shown, again, in bright red letters two feet high.

Called the hotel to make sure they'd received my request for technical services (power and Internet hookup) at the booth. Nope. I sent it three weeks ago, so really I should've found this out before now. Oops.

Still, it may be a good thing really. I subscribe to the principle that if things seem to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something, and I'd been wondering what it was.

Cautious optimism prevails...

That could've gone better. Oh well, I've been distracted, what with this and that.
