Surgeons are tougher than me
Nov. 10th, 2006 09:11 amJust got back from Surgical Grand Rounds (with a stop for coffee). 7-freakin'-30 a.m. they have those. I've heard of 7:30 a.m., of course, but normally I'm lucky to be struggling out of bed by then. Although I must say the streetcar trip downtown was nice and speedy.
Anyway, as it's Bioethics Week, they had 4 different people (surgeon, physician who does a lot of work on nutrition supplements in developing countries, VP International Affairs, physician/bioethicist from Uganda) presenting on Conjoined Twins vs. Malnutrition in Africa: Where do we put our resources? Really interesting. Of course one never comes out of these things with The Answer, but it was great to hear all the different perspectives and some of the ethical principles involved. The bioethicist spoke last and she pointed out that different ethical principles sometimes (actually, often) point to different priorities, so it's also important to have a process and a framework for thinking about these questions.
And now I shall work. I don't think I have very much of interest to report. Feeling a bit overwhelmed and anxious about everything I have to do -- work, house, course, life, etc. But it's Friday.
