Good weekend! [livejournal.com profile] life_on_queen and I watched Stage 1 of the Tour de France on TVzilla at her place (following a meal of asparagus, steak frites, and strawberries with sour cream and brown sugar. I LOVE going over to her mum's for dinner). I like watching the Tour de France, for many reasons:

1. Pretty pretty French scenery.
2. Sometimes hysterical commentary from Versus (via OLN).
3. Oh thank God that isn't me riding 200+ km up a mountain today.
4. Tactics, tradition etc. are actually quite fascinating.
5. Mental workout involved in keeping track of which team is wearing which outfits.
6. So many of the team names are such fun to say: Liquigas! Bouygues! Euskadie Euskaltel!

In which spirit, please welcome Team Garmin Chipotle to the 2008 Tour, not only because their name is Team Garmin Chipotle and the world can always use more of that, but because their outfits are argyle. Yes. Argyle.

I have made a start on our annual cheat sheet to help with point 5. Some teams' outfits are helpfully labelled (thank you Cofidis and CSC) but some are really not, and others look entirely different from behind. Also, someone should tell Saunier Duval to lose the yellow and white uniforms, because they really are confusing.

Also, my parents mowed and weeded my lawn and trimmed my hedge yesterday, which I appreciated very much (although I feel a bit guilty).

Had lunch with my mum, as she is on jury duty this week (which so far has involved sitting around in a room with a bunch of other people waiting for her name to be called and envying the guy 3 seats over his Sudoku book -- with luck she won't get stuck in a trial that will eat her entire summer) at one of the many courts around these parts.

It is hot out.

Am quite impressed with Access Toronto. On Friday morning I sent them this:

Hi --

I'm not quite sure who to contact about this! I noticed last night that one of the aircraft-warning strobe lights on one of the smokestacks west of my house is flashing EXTREMELY brightly -- brightly enough to make shadows on the wall! This is not an issue with any of the other strobe lights -- you can see them, obviously, but they don't actually light up the neighbourhood. I don't know if this is strictly a directional problem; I'm at [my address].

The problem is I'm not altogether sure which smokestack it is (it's dark out). From the direction, I assume it's either the Ashbridge's Bay treatment plant or the Hearn generating station,* which puts the light at least 2 km from my house.

Is there any way to (a) find out where this light is located and (b) change it to a lower wattage?

Thanks in advance!

Best,

Electric Landlady
