Sometimes this company amazes me.
Just learned from the receptionist that she has a limited distribution list for the company phone extensions. Until I asked about it, project managers weren't on it. Still not on it:
Writers and editors
Graphic artists
Programmers
QA
System developers
to which I say: wtf?
It is possible that this restriction is only intended to apply to the cellphone list. I could understand that. But the phone extensions?
"No, you're not allowed to know how to get in touch with anyone else in the company. It's a secret. Get up and walk over to their desks if you need something. Yes, we know you have a phone. No, you're not allowed to make personal calls either."
This seems to imply that the people on the above list may use their phones for incoming calls only. This further implies that if an artist needs to ask a writer something -- which is not inconceivable -- he or she is intended to be SOL on the phone front.
*eyeroll*
