The end never justifies the means. It cannot. In fact, bad means corrupt a good end.

Obvious, much? Wish I knew where I'd read this stated much more eloquently, or could remember which philosopher J said came up with the idea. My brain is going all runny at the edges.

well, i know that Macciavelli (excuse my spelling) wrote that the ends justify the means (from his book "The Prince"), but i dunno who said that they didnt

Yeah, but he contextualized that into a society built on absolute power, which was contending with plague and weak rulers and and and. And he then safetied it so that he didn't mean it all the time; what it mostly said was that a prince must be strong, and a leader must lead, even when the going gets tough.
