Today has truly been a Day of Useless Meetings. (It's only 1:30? It feels much, much later.)
8:45 a.m.: get in
9:00: call from receptionist. Marie-Lynn phoned and wanted to make sure I would be in Production 2 in 5 minutes. Okey. Print some files and
9:05: walk over to Production 2. Eleanor's already there.
Wait.
Chitchat.
Wait.
Chitchat.
Wait.
Make rude comments.
9:20: call Marie-Lynn's cellphone and leave a message. Stacey arrives, apologetic.
9:25: Marie-Lynn calls! They've already finished discussing the first two activities (the ones that have medical content and that we would kind of like to have discussed with them) and are just about to start the third. We should stay on the line and jump in if there's anything they need us for.
So we stick the phone on mute. I boot up the storyboard and get copying and pasting, reasoning that I might as well be somewhat productive. We continue to chat and mock, occasionally falling silent and trying to figure out what the hell they're saying on the other end of the phone because we really can't hear much.
11:00: Eleanor starts to get antsy, being as how she has real work to do. We send her back to her desk, promising that we'll call her if she's needed.
11:29: Stacey goes for more coffee.
11:30: Marie-Lynn says "Hey guys! We're taking a break now! You can go if you want. I'll call later. Or maybe tomorrow."
And then I sat in on an hour-long lunch and learn about referencing guidelines, which will be terribly useful for my remaining 2.5 days on the job. Occasionally I heckled. I did warn Inara I was going to. At least I got pizza out of the deal.
Now... real work?
I feel singularly useless this week. What motivation?
