Well hello everyone. Since we spoke last I have:

- finished work at my old job
- had several goodbye parties
- gone to the FrancoFolies
- been taken to lunch
- packed up the rest of my apartment
- cancelled my gym membership, phone, electricity, gas, and Internet connection
- given away a bunch of furniture (not the #&%*@# washer and dryer, though! dammit!) and been paid for some of it, which was a nice surprise
- helped my dad load everything else into the van
- driven to Toronto

I'm feeling a tad stunned. Yes, stunned is the word, I think. I still don't know whether my landlords will accept me giving up the apartment at the end of the month, curse them, and my doctor's appointment this afternoon is a beautiful mystery -- will they find my file? Will she see me at all? Stay tuned! On the plus side, the hard part of the move is over, and now I just have to find a place to live, get my health forms sorted out, deal with my car (insurance, emissions test, safety test, licence), apply for an Ontario driver's licence and health card, get a phone... I think I'll stop now, this is depressing me.

Meantime, Rob sez:

The news media love bad news because they think it's more interesting and worthy of our attention than good news. The nineteenth-century poet John Keats said, "If something is not beautiful, it is probably not true," but many of today's journalists imply that if something isn't ugly, it's not true. The wide acceptance of this bizarre perspective colors our personal rhythms. We're prone to the delusion that a well-lived life is mostly a struggle; that it's normal to feel we're in a constant battle against the natural tendency of everything to fall apart. But right now is a perfect time for you to divest yourself of this nonsense, Scorpio. I urge you to devote your intelligence and passion to changing your beliefs about the nature of reality. Focus on what's beautiful and successful. Create opportunities for high-integrity pleasure. Have a fierce intention to find joy. Be a tough-minded optimist.
Them's words to live by, say I.

Welcome to Torontoland, that city that is just like living in the US except for the part where it is pretty diverse ethnically and also has better traffic control on the freeways during rush hour!

Next time I come to visit my friend Mabel I will look you up! I am thinking it will be either around Labo(u)r Day or Halloween.

Dang! I wanted the washer and dryer, but I thought all of your stuff was spoken for.

Anywho, enjoy the new city.

Isn't moving fun?!?!?!

Keep da chin up and the head on the shoulders. Things will happen, and all the sudden you'll find yourself looking around and thinking, whoa, I'm finished, everything is settled, cool.

I admit, this fantastic moment is probably a month or so away yet, but hey, optimism is the key! :)

This pep talk brought to you by your local cosmopolitan.

You've been quite busy! It also sounds like you still have a lot to do, but so long as you only take it step by step, it won't seem so much. Good luck!

Welcome home dear.

Please send me your contact numbers.

We must go for ice cream soon!

Perhaps this weekend so you can meet my kid sister when she's in town.

Dang it! I meet somebody cool, and she ups and leaves the province.

Good luck in Toronto! Having just been through a long-distance move myself, all I can say is hang in there. Things will fall into place.

Yahoo! That will be a good thing, whenever it is! Well, Labo(u)r Day would be better of course, because sooner. But Halloween might give me a fighting chance of having an apartment.

Thanks! And you moved COUNTRIES. Not even adjacent countries! I can do this!

I may need to come back for refresher pep talks, though.

Thank you! Actually it looks like Cranky and I will be in Montreal (I have to clean my apartment).

But then I'll have a week to relax! Except for the TB test.

Thanks for coming to the party BTW -- it was great to see you, however briefly!

Thanks!

I'm staying with my parents (although I think a cellphone is a #1 priority right now). Looks like I'm going back to Mtl for the weekend, though. But another time soon for sure!

Hope I FIND a new place. I'm getting a storage locker in case it turns out to be ages.

We brought the bed, my chest of drawers, the blanket chest and my bedside table, plus the two folding tables and the armchair and a gajillion or so boxes. I can't believe how much my dad can fit in that van. Thank you SO much for all your help!

Thank you -- the moral support is very much appreciated! And I'll be returning to Montreal often, I hope.

plus, you know, Halloween is your b-day and there might be a party and all that....

sadly, fall convocation is looking unlikely, so I prolly won't be about...

Mom and I have decided that you are not allowed to not find a place. You need your own space, and sooner than later. This is not an option. your parents are lovely. But you all need your own space.

So. Get househunting!!! *stern look*

What size and type are they, and where could I find them? I'll need to arrange transport, since I don't think they're likely to fit in the back of our car.

Yeah, you can do it! And you got friends and your family, never forget that. They WILL come through. Fingers crossed for the landlord thing. I've moved 5 times in the past 7 years, and not ONCE did the landlord of the place not try and screw me over. Tell him I'll kick his ass!

It was great to see you as well.

If you need help on Sunday at the apartment, let me know.

Oh, and thanks for the magazine holder! The cats seem to have taken a real liking to it :)

The washer is on the small side, and is of the type that rolls across the floor and hooks up to a faucet. The dryer is... dryer-sized? Both are oldish and I don't, offhand, know the make. My apartment is near Vendome metro. If you are interested, give me a call at 369-8253; I'm driving down today and will be there most of the day tomorrow.
