Oct. 1st, 2004 11:00 pmI keep promising updates and then getting all daunted. So. Here's the 30-second version:
Loving being back in Toronto. Job is cool, still figuring out parts of it but feeling more confident that all my writing skills have not completely atrophied (and one of my stories went up! finally! yay me!). Co-workers are good. Finding places to eat. Managing not to spend ALL my time at the office. Turns out that despite my salary cut, taxes are so much lower here that my take-home pay is actually a bit higher than it was in Montreal.
I'm doing a slightly better job restraining my urge to read ALL the medical news sites and pursue EVERY halfway interesting story. That said, did you know that bank voles may be a source of zoonoses? No? Me neither. Poor little things.
Cousin Jen sat me down with the Beach Metro News and made me focus, as a result of which I found an apartment last weekend. I get it November 1st. Camping until then, but with an end date. No word from my Montreal landlords but the super gave me a glowing character reference, so that's OK.
There are some depressing basement apartments out there.
How to make a Torontonian's jaw drop: say "In Montreal I was paying $483 for a pretty nice 1-bedroom apartment." Then add "And $59 for a monthly transit pass."
I still can't figure out what to do with my car, but I'm thinking Car Heaven might be the answer, unless one of my Montreal friends knows anyone who would like a 1989 Chevy station wagon that needs a little work?
I've been buying kind of a lot of clothes. Need to stop that soon.
I joined a choir and I'm going to take a 4-week course at the Art Gallery starting a couple of weeks from now.
I've been going to the gym, but I appear to have gained 5 pounds in 3 weeks. That better be either water retention or muscle, is all I have to say.
The weather is still amazing, and I'm still having allergies.
I'm going to my second annual Bring Your Own Crustacean party tomorrow night.
Shaun of the Dead rocks, Sky Captain etc. is only so-so, it was fun watching City Hall get blown up in Resident Evil: Apocalypse. I hate long and compound movie titles.
I still miss my stuff. Also the CBC morning show in Montreal. Also I want to see my Montreal friends again soon. Also it's true, the bagels here really aren't up to standard.
I'm going to Mexico with
raithen in November, which will be WAY COOL.
OK, that was more like the 5-minute version, but I managed not to babble on, and this is good. At some point I may even lose my superstitious dread of updating from work, you never know.
How's everyone doing?
