I was standing on the westbound platform at St. George station yesterday evening, gazing vacantly into space as one does and admiring the new You Are Here map, which consisted of a schematic of the Yonge-University line plus the half of the Bloor-Danforth line that runs west of Yonge. There was a "direction" arrow on the legend and not on the map, but aside from that it seemed like a pretty cool and helpful and well-designed piece of information.

Vaguely wondering if the eastbound map would have a "direction" arrow and what it would say, I turned around and looked at it. Something didn't seem quite right. I looked at it... turned around again and looked at the westbound map... turned back. Was Victoria Park usually...? Oh.

Then it dawned on me: presumably for purposes of prettier graphic design, they had flipped the map so that you had a mirror image of the lines, then stuck the station names in. North was at the top and south at the bottom, as you'd expect, but east was now off to the left.

I pity the tourists, that's all.

The only POSSIBLE justification I can think of is that it matched the direction of travel... but that's pretty thin, 'cos the Yonge-University line was still in a U shape, just a mirror image of its normal self. If they were going to try and be helpful, they should've just rotated the whole thing.

I wonder if I should call them?
