(I feel like I've been waiting to use that title for years.)

Anyway, I woke up this morning (earlier than I should've, because of a stupid bee that had found its way in my window and couldn't apparently find the way out again) to a fair amount of pain around about the left ovary. It freaked me out more than a little, because that's how my whole episode of gynaecological excitement started four years ago, and I really don't want to go through that again. However, I did a brief systems check and realized (a) no fever, (b) really no chance of infection, (c) appetite is fine, (d) no obvious signs of a fibroid popping up again, and (e) anyway, this has been happening fairly often around this time in my cycle. It's always the left ovary. Last time they reckoned it was a functional cyst, but since I'm on the pill I presumably shouldn't be ovulating, so I don't know what's going on.

Anyway, I took a shower and the pain is gone now, so I guess it's nothing serious. But should I give my doctor a call anyway?

I believe the pill prevents implantation, not ovulation. But I could be wrong.

oh, and I forgot to ask the REALLY important question about this post, because, well, slow on the uptake this Monday morning:

will your "friggin ovary" bring down a gov't today?

I had a similar idea, but on the other hand, I think I'm teaching my grandmother to s--
*rephrases*
... I think I'm giving my opinion to someone who is likely to have a more solid grip on the facts.

Call doctor, or call tele-health Ontario, who will tell you to call a doctor.

Most likely, there's a change in the weather coming.

Some pills only prevent implantation, but most prevent ovulation as well, though I think it can depend on the woman's physiology. I believe it's only the low dose ones that don't necessarily prevent ovulation. And sometimes, if the woman has particularly strong hormones of her own, if she takes the pill at different times or misses one, an egg can slip through.

Hiho,

If my left ovary did that, I would call a doctor.

Wait...

If I suddenly found that I had a left ovary, I would definitely call a doctor.

Cu,
Andrew

Nor am I. I'm on the 12-week program, and I never make it to 12 weeks, partly because of my own hormones and partly because I usually get going into the 5th week or so and forget a pill and a few days later, Bam!
