anniversaries

This month is:

10 years since I should have graduated from university, and instead failed nearly all my lab courses and barely scraped through my honours thesis and got an internship at a national magazine and then sat around and did nothing for 6 months until my parents got fed up and told me to get a job.

20 years since we left Kenya.

I don't know what I was doing 30 years ago. Probably nothing that exciting. I didn't fall off the balcony onto my head until I was 3, so it wasn't that.

Still, it's making me feel as though weird portentous things ought to be happening. Or not -- I could probably come up with equally significant anniversaries for just about anything.

10 years ago this summer, I was working as a night laundry lady at a hotel, and doing summer Shakespeare in a tent.

20 years ago this summer, I was incredibly jealous of my friends across the street, whose parents had taken them to see Back to the Future at the drive-in. My parents never took me to the drive-in.

*hee* I fell down the basement stairs in my walker when I was about 10 months.... ;).

What makes it even better is that it was an island in Muskoka -- my parents had to take me to Parry Sound (I think) by boat and car! Although I don't really remember anything about that part.

*hugs* time is an odd thing, and i don't think it's linear. and *ouch* for falling off the balcony. i kind of like that there are anniversaries for
so many things.

even if it's this one: this august is 10 years since jerry garcia died. this month is the anniversary of my last dead show. *sigh*

five years ago this july i quit my old career and now have a job/work i adore working at a place i respect. who would have thunk? ;)
