Toronto's new logo. We're fugly! We're meaningless! We're stuck in the '70s!

Ewww.

The blame goes here.

that's pretty ugly.

If it's being used to promote U.S. tourism, shouldn't it just say as plainly as possible, "Toronto: Bush can't get you here"?

I'm not saying there aren't other things that Canada is good for but 99% of the Canada references I hear (excepting from Canadians) are in reference to escaping the madness that appears to have overtaken us.

For $2 million, I could have come up with something better. For instance - Toronto - we really, really want you to like us! Or perhaps - Toronto - we are too world class!

I guess they wanted something that would work for longer than 4 years? You do have those term limits still, right?

Of course, there's always Jeb.

Yeah... yeah.

What's wrong with our existing logo, dammit? I like it! It's not even that old!

The more I see what focus groups have wrought, the less good I think they are.

term limits? HA!

We also used to have these things called elections but now they're just an ornamental display for the coronation.

I first saw that on the [livejournal.com profile] graphicdesign community and I thought it was by some not-yet-professional graphic design student asking for critiques on their project. It looks really amateur, and not befitting the happening and amazingly diverse city I fell in love with a few weeks back.

Of course, this criticism come to you courtesy the dude from Winnipeg, whose awful logo, which has compared to a breast and/or an ice cream sundae topped with a cherry.

ok, seeing the rest of the campaign, I am even MORE scared now.... Plus, girly girl who posted claims "Design is her life" and actually LIKES it? *oig* ::worries for the future of graphic design::

caveat: I am not a designer, I just play one on TV deal with design a LOT in my job.

Winnipeg's logo looks so Olympic-bid (but better than Vancouver's), and much, much better than Toronto's. Then again, a lot of good places suffer from awful or eyesore visual design... like Honest Ed's, for instance.

hey now, don't you go dissing Honest Ed's! That's an institution!

But not an institution of tasteful signage!

but with tasteful signage it would just be another ginormous dollar store! I like it better this way.
