Jul. 26th, 2005 10:09 amOverslept this morning -- it's dark and rainy (finally!) and my cellphone battery died in the night so the alarm didn't go off. Made it in to the office but am seriously questioning this decision. I feel like crap around the edges. Uncertain whether this is because I went to the dump last night and inhaled a large amount of unknown but probably noxious substances, weather, lingering cold, or what. Oh well. And we have a building-evacuation fire drill today (nice of them to warn us). I think I'll be having a coffee break.
Ah, the dump. They sent us inside again. Visibility was poor and we were shifting 270 kg of assorted plaster and lath, with nails in. My work boots have got a nice baptism at long last. Sadly, my uncle didn't bring work gloves for me, but luckily I am tough. The question at the dump is always "Do I breathe through my mouth, thus delivering all this junk directly to my lungs, or do I breathe through my nose and have to cope with The Smell?" Suffice it to say I now know what Han and the gang were smelling down there in the garbage hold and it wasn't pretty.
Then I changed out of my work boots and had a beer with
crankygrrl and her Mum, checking first to see what episode of Slings and Arrows I was recording. Turns out to be the first one yet again -- Showcase really does want its money's worth -- so I'll be able to get the complete series on tape at last. Hurray!
Next post: wedding report.

Date: 2005-07-26 03:21 pm (UTC)as for gloves, durabulls by Watsons Gloves. Canadian made. Last really well (and I DECIMATE) work gloves. Come in multiple sizes, so you can get a good fit.
IF you don't like the cowhide (it's stiff at first, but boot cream or saddle oil will soften them) their deerhide gloves are also nice, and much softer - I just go through them really quickly, and if you are dealing with prickly/splintery stuff I'm a fan of the cowhide.
FWIW!!
