Yesterday, Dad and spent nearly four hours in Rona/Home Depot buying lighting stuff – I thought I’d update y’all on what we got.

• 3 more recessed halogen fixtures for my bathroom, bringing the total to 5


• 3 recessed halogen fixtures with white trim for R’s dining/living pass-through


• 2 insulated housings for the recessed fixtures in R’s living room that will be under the knee wall.


• 9 dimmer switches – we went with the simple round dials because the slider ones I tested didn’t actually dim (except the fancy one that I really liked that cost 6x as much as the dials)


• 10 of those wide rocker bar light switches


• 4 double socket panels


• 3 bathroom fans (1 sone) – but I’m going to return the 2 from Canadian Tire and get them from Home Depot instead because they’re cheaper


• an assortment of light bulbs for testing purposes


• bits and pieces to make my valence lighting thingies – except I may go for zenon instead…I haven’t made up my mind...


• a HUGE spool of wire


• a new sponge mop for Mum

We didn’t get

• recessed fixtures for R’s kitchen, because we were seized by doubts – need more input from R on kind and number.


• under cabinet lighting – going to get them from Living Lighting


• doorbell/intercom – none available with intercom

• wall sconces


• a ceiling fan for R


• a ceiling fixture for J’s dining room


• ceiling fixtures for all of R’s rooms


• ceiling fixture for vestibule


• outside lights
