House update: Friday and weekend
Oct. 17th, 2005 09:26 amMy aunt reports:
I also have decided that if possible, my closet lights should be sort of tracklighting-esque floodlights mounted on the sloping ceiling and aimed at the closet. I fear this will not be popular with John.
Also, the Rona guy called and the pendant lights we liked for the stairs are in. I think we want 3, although we could get 4 and just change the one at the top if we don't like it.
I called to request an inspection for tomorrow afternoon, but have not heard back from the inspector people yet.
I learned this morning that the Russian for "hooligan" is pronounced very much like "hooligan", only with the H sounding more like the CH in "loch". I'm afraid I can't give you the Cyrillic version, although I was shown it. It starts with an "x", or at least something that looks like an "x".
I think that is all for now.
Today for lunch there were no hooligans in the afternoon; so John and I joined Ken and Carol at Ce Vediamo. They have just come back from Budapest.Sadly, the weekend was not wildly productive. On Saturday my parents and I went in and measured stuff on the third floor. I owe Daddy a copy of those notes so that he can start constructing the shelves in my closet-to-be.
John worked on wiring changes on the third floor all day.
Brian the Tile came and put up cement board Jen's bathroom. He wants the crew to put up greenboard on the party wall in Jen's bathroom (who has a party in a bathroom?), and perhaps in Robin's.
Ken and Carol came to see progress and were impressed.
Cheers all, Helen

Blimey! Check it out: хулиган. Funny how you don't forget some things :) I haven't had a Russian class in 11 years. It used to be so confusing ... "y" = [u], "u" = [e], "p" = [r], "H" = [n]!!!
Aww, thanks for bringing that back to my memory, Ell.

Date: 2005-10-18 01:28 pm (UTC)I am so impressed. Also wishing I hadn't wasted all my time when people tried to teach *me* 3 other languages...

Date: 2005-10-18 10:36 pm (UTC)I've got another thought or two, but can't articulate them at the moment. Maybe I'll make a sketch or two, and scan them in. Are there two sides to the closet? Is it just the curtain/curtain rod in front, or are you doing any sort of valance?
The fluorescent light thing is a heat issue, so keep that in mind if you do go with a close-in light. Don't get something that's going to heat up.
As always, feel free to ignore my opinion. I don't have to live in the house.
* and here I was stuck on the "-escent". ;)
