Date: 2006-01-08 06:05 pm (UTC)Seems fun to me, and the nice long holiday would mean being able to spread out one's family visits some, seeing everyone over the course of the festivities. It'd also have kept the pols from even thinking of campaigning in that interholiday period...

It embraces differences and unity, the unknown and the universal, friends and family and strangers, those close to you and those remote and far away. Plus, it's a weeklong celebration of culture and food! And for vegans and vegetarians, it allows an escape from the whole turkey ritual. And no campaigning. It's a perfect holiday!
