On Saturday my aunt reported:

Today for lunch, Dan, John, Mike and I had bacon and eggs--with raspberry turnovers.

Today, Stuart and Robin figured out how the Ikea cupboard should--theoretically--fit, and installed one in Rob's kitchen.* Stuart also worked on windows.

Robin and Jen counted and inventoried the numerous Ikea boxes.***

Dan worked on drywall--as ever--and on the floor vent in the downstairs hall. We may need more flooring. John wired, as ever.

Yesterday, Gill finished painting Rob's third floor bathroom, which looks very nice.

Cheers all, Helen.
*In the continuing theme of Nothing Is Ever Simple, it turned out that the new f[i/u]rring strips are horizontal, and not at the level required for the suspension rail. Which if we'd given it any thought we would have known and could have compensated for, but we didn't. So we toyed briefly with the idea of putting up a 7'x4' sheet of 3/4" plywood to hang the cupboards off, but then decided that we sort of knew where the old, deeper f[u/i]rring strips that the lath and plaster had been attached to were, and we could use long screws and attach the suspension rail to those. And failing that, Tapcons [sp?] into the brick.** So we've done that. It was imprecise, because they were kinda sorta 16" centres but a bit free and easy. So far so good. It's just lucky that wall is going to be covered by cabinets, because it ain't pretty.
**This is where I heard, from Jen, [livejournal.com profile] monkeycommando's story about the cabinet that fell off the wall and crushed the yam and nearly crushed S. It was alarming. I heard it again that evening from the source, when it was even more alarming but also really funny.
***Which are ALL OVER THE HOUSE. Seriously. We kept finding new ones in unexpected places. We have a spare 30" base cabinet and two extra doors. And Stuff. Not, however, the cabinet we really need at this precise moment, which is supposed to go over my microwave.

On Sunday:

Today for lunch, Dan, John, Mike and I had breakfast.*

John owes Dan a big apology. Turns out Dan was in today--and planning to turn up at 8:00 am tomorrow--in the belief that Ed the floor was due tomorrow. Turns out John had not widely communicated that Ed is returning on Thursday. Dan said, "I've got better things to do on a Sunday," and left. In the meantime, he evidently did a lovely job on the first floor lobby. Also worked on drywall.

Jen and Robin went to Ikea, looking for spare parts.** Jen bought a bed but did not deliver it to Lee. Dan said he would cry if anymore Ikea stuff went to The House.****

Stuart and Robin worked on kitchen cabinets.***** Jen is helping me with a (real) deadline of proofreading by tomorrow a 127-page document on continuous audit.

John and I went to a concert.
Cheers, Helen
*Jen had McDonald's and I had Ikea $1 breakfast.
**The good news is that they have my missing order*** in the computer. The bad news is it shows up as having been delivered. So they are looking to find out what happened. They were very nice about it all.
***Which consists of: a cabinet to go over the microwave; a door for said cabinet; a bunch of feet and hinges; some cover panels. Doubtless it will all fit together somehow. If we find it.
****And I bought a shelf and a set of towel pegs and a toilet paper holder for my 3rd floor bathroom, also two pull-out wire shelves that should have been part of my original kitchen order but weren't, also handles for my kitchen cabinets. And it was free, because we had a store credit and two gift cards left over from ages ago. So yay.
*****And then we cleaned the kitchen window so it would feel like we'd accomplished something, because the cabinets are going slowly.
