...I thought that statistic was a bunch of crap until I actually started working in a lingerie dept. (GapBody, not like, Frederick's of Hollywood or anything.)

But it's true, most women are wearing the wrong size bra - to which I can only say, get a bra fitting every single time you go into buy a new bra. At one point, i couldn't figure out why the 38C I always wear suddenly didn't fit anymore - I'd dropped a cup size.

Funnily enough, when a couple of my neighbors found out I knew how to do bra fittings, I ended up standing on my front steps one night and doing a bunch. (10 apartments, only three of them with guys, and only two of us women are straight. Add in that some of the girls had thier partners there that night, & that's a lot of estrogen) One of the girls had been told for years that she was a C - that was BULLSH*T - the reason she could only wear sports bras was that she was actually a DD & her doctor had measured her wrong. Which, oddly enough, led to a conversation four months later where midnight_sprint saw me get hugged by a rather large butch girl who thanked me for measuring her right because it spurred her to get reduction surgery & she was much happier now.

anyway, yeah. Bra fitting. every. single. time. you. go. it's free, & it'll solve a lot of problems.

I would love that.... (I had a professional fitting once. They produced a bra which *did not fit.* Ah, well.)

do you know what the BITCHES at the local high-end (expensive, only qualified bra fitters in town carries Chantelle, Le Jaby etc etc - really the only game in town for what they do) lingerie store did to my mom a few weeks back?

My mom, who has shopped there consistently since they OPENED and buys between 2-4 bras a year there (and not the cheap kind, either -ave $100 each). And who got ME shopping there. Anyway, Chantelle discontinued the bra she's worn for years, and since that happened a year ago, she's struggled to find a comfortable alternative. She's been in a few times, tried on tonnes of bras, been refitted, and lAst time she was in, dropped a lot of shiny coin on a bra that has proven hopelessly uncomfortable, that has falling down constantly straps etc. She has started wearing cheapy-tank tops with shelf bras because they are the ONLY thing that is comfortable. The girls at the shop have been tenuously helpful, but have reiterated that she has "too high expectations and to suck it up" -- which is somewhat disturbing to me. But ok, they have poor Customer Service, so be it...

So, with the spring lines out, Mom thought she'd give it one more shot. And she went in, and was dealing with one of the more helpful clerks, as opposed to one of the owners (a mother daughter team). And they were getting somewhere. Mom had basically found a bra she thought she would like, and was gonna probably buy it. The clerk wanted to check one more thing before completing that sale. When the daughter owner saw WHO the clerk was waiting on.... And she said to the clerk, rather rudely, "oh, it's HER! She has tried on EVERY BRA in this shop, there is NOTHING here that will fit her. Don't waste your time with her."

Mom, of course, heard every word, got dressed, and walked out. We'll be buying our bras elsewhere from now on, and we are making sure to tell our friends...

oh, I wouldn't expect perfection of any industry. :) (in fairness, it was a Victoria's Secret lady with measuring tape, so "professional" may have been overstating the case a bit.)

I'm a 36DD or thereabouts - there's only so far ANY bra can go to make me comfortable. (I sympathize tremendously with those who are much more afflicted than I....)
