My aunt reports:
Today for lunch, brother Bob, Calypso, Cordelia, John and I had pistou soup and French bread with cheese (including Stilton) and meat. Yesterday, I was downtown. And now I am off to the fan store in search of a ceiling fan that (a) isn't hideous, (b) will fit in the space I have for it. Wish me luck!
So, William has been doing doors and doors. He's almost through. John has been finishing Jen's kitchen base cabinets.
But the epic story of the two days is the pulley. At one time, the sash weight went up so hard it broke the pulley. Evidently, someone slammed shut a window --hard. ((Tekka and Borislad?) So John went to the East End Garden Store (the tough ladies and they know everything) to ask. They directed him to an old hardware store near Jones. Then he was directed to Peter's Aluminum, who said we take those things out of house of every day. They said, we throw them out. Another guy in a truck said go check to store this side of Leslie: sells funny hardware. Then John went and there was a sort of an antique store with a guy playing solitaire on the computer. Looked at John's sample. Looked at his varnished catalogue drawers, reached up and said this is it. $10:00.
Cheers, Helen
