My brother uses Dreamhost, which works for him, but they've had issues in the past (mostly related to them not scaling up their server farms enough to deal with demand). So, I give them a qualified recommendation.
I've been using DBWired (http://www.dbwired.com) for years with no issues. Their Linux accounts are stable, inexpensive, and reliable. And because it is technically a business account (even for the ultra-cheapie Linux package I have), the support is kickass and awesome. I do not hesitate to send anyone their way, and haven't since I signed on with them about 5 years ago.
I've been using Start Logic for the last year and I haven't had any problems whatsoever. It's UNIX/LINUX based, reasonably priced, and I think they allow you to transfer your domain name for free.
