Till the Fat Lady Sings, Alisa Kwitney (it was OK, but caused me to commit haiku: how did it go again? Something like:
Bulimia, suicide,
feminist theory,
and know-it-all narration)
Pay the Piper, Jane Yolen and Adam Stemple
Hogfather, Terry Pratchett (reread, still wonderful)
Logan in Overtime, Paul Quarrington (reread -- it was, as I'd remembered, a lot of fun, and there were lots of things I'd forgotten starting with Logan's knees and moving on from there)
also a couple of things I'm sending to [livejournal.com profile] life_on_queen except now I've sent them and can't remember; incidentally? Shipping airmail to Ireland is not cheap.

Returned without reading: Rebecca, Daphne du Maurier (not in the mood, although I've been enjoying the posts on Bookshelves of Doom)

Why? Did you send me the Alisa Kwitney? Because anything that causes you to haiku seems like it has a high 'working my last nerve' index.

OTOH, I read Seizure in one night so I can hack anything Also? being the literary editor of the Times of London? Does not make you God's Gift to Literary Fiction. And she's going to be talking to our class, which means I either need to reread the damn book or punk out in front of my classmates. It's a glum choice, either way.

Seizure

It was... well, let's just say that "sensuous prose" could be code for "wants to be Michael Ondaatje but lacks the chops".

Also, would giving my parents a copy of the book I compiled this fall for Christmas be a sucky gift?

Oh dear.

And no, I don't think that would be a sucky gift! That would be cool!

Also? Literary editor of the Times... let's just go piss off one of the most influential reviewers in the English language, eh?

I love Paul Quarrington. Whale Music is my favourite book ever.

I will have to read more of his stuff! I've liked what I have read up to now.

I've only read two or three and I don't think Logan in Overtime was one of them, but I read the excerpt on his website and I think I'm gonna love it. *g*
