This immediately made me think of all those vampire novels (which I can't call to mind right now, but I know I've read some!) where the "good" vampire subsists on blood bank blood but complains that it's yucky: Two-week-old blood no good for transfusions.

But this is just cool. Via EurekAlert, El-E is an assistive robot for people with mobility problems. Instead of trying to tell it what you want, you "click" on objects using a laser pointer, then it goes and fetches them for you.

Plenty of cool video here. Although it does make you think -- so much work and processing power and engineering going into something a two-year-old, or a reasonably trained dog, can do with no problem. Not that I wish to diss the work or the robot at all, you understand, but it's just another illustration of how impressive an organ the brain is.

Finally, I continue to heart Mark Morford.
