The best part of lying in bed all toasty this morning was listening to the radio describing the total chaos in the West End and knowing I wasn't affected by it. (I miss the drama yet again! OTOH, power cut when it's 18 below = teh suck.) This probably makes me a bad person. (City's story is much more comprehensive, if anyone reading this still needs to know what's going on.)

The worst part was eventually having to get up and go to work. I finked on any kind of decent walk, too. The dog hates me. (Hey! It's sunny! I have a nice warm fur coat! Let's GOOOOOO! ...aw.)

I was in the west end when that happened last night and it didn't affect the bar I was in, so it was quite a surprise. Then followed Drivin' Crimes to get people home. Smart Cars = only two seats. But shockingly large trunk!

I wonder how that will effect observant Jews in the area... is it acceptable to turn things on during shabbat if you didn't have the opportunity to say start the stove before shabbat began?

I'm guessing some Rabbi's are probably giving this one some thought somewhere in Toronto :)

Things that are going to have a truly negative effect upon life, property or in any way endanger people are pretty close to automatically ok even for most orthodox folks. It is stuff that is just a major pain in the ass or uncomfortable that they need to get "creative" or in some way seek permission from a Rabbi who then in turn needs to find a way around the rule.
