electricland: (me by ohi)

It is exactly 6 months since I posted last. I have missed you all, and I'm going to try to be around more -- I've just purged my friends list of most syndicated feeds and various people I don't read, so hopefully that will make it less daunting to keep up.

I wish I could tell you I've been doing wildly exciting things, but honestly it's mostly been work (punctuated by Christmas and the Olympics). Oh, and I did a scavenger hunt/race/fundraising thingy in the ROM on Family Day, which was a lot of fun; we came third. Six months and that's all I have to say, oh dear. For the curious, here's the current state of things.

Blue: Generally well. Mugged by Golden Retriever yesterday, has laceration to eyelid but the eye itself is fine and he seems fairly unconcerned. Antibiotic eye ointment will hopefully ensure all heals well.

House: Still no baseboards. Front room in state of disarray (countertop taking up most of floor). Finally putting on second coat of paint, still need to build shelving unit and hem curtains and paint trim and what have you. But hey. Oh, and we replaced half the roof. This is good, because water no longer comes through the pot lights in my kitchen ceiling.

Entertaining: Christmas and Robbie Burns Day. (Which went surprisingly well despite jitters.)

Choir: Still singing. We're up by a tenor, which is nice.

Inner demons: Took a mindfulness-based stress reduction course in the fall. Surprisingly helpful, although only when I actually meditate regularly. (There's always a catch.) Luckily, even putting in some effort on the streetcar generally works.

Computer: Dying on its feet, not that it has them. Desperately need a new one. Alas, cash flow situation is not so good. (This is the Year of Debt Reduction. I thought that was last year, but it turned out to be the Year of Holding the Line. I blame the roof.)

Reading: Of course. Gotta love the library. Recent standouts: The Fat Woman Next Door is Pregnant by Michel Tremblay (it was a Canada Reads selection last year, but I've been slow), and Lying About Hitler by Richard Evans. I was also very gleeful to finally get hold of The Cinderella Deal by Jennifer Crusie (after some Amazon/Canada Post shenanigans which I will spare you).

So that's me more or less. What have I missed with you?
