Bicycles and such
Jul. 22nd, 2003 04:19 pmOoooh, settling back in to work after a vacation is so hard. Even a mini-vacation. (Although I must say for a mini-vacation this has done me ever such a lot of good, possibly because it was more like 3 completely separate vacations one after the other: Toronto Trek, then 3 days at the cottage, then Niagara-on-the-Lake and the Shaw Festival with
monkeycommando, his wife S and my cousin J.)
Hah, you thought this was going to be a proper post, didn't you? Well, it isn't; it's just a snippet for
mrs_cake, who has disclosed she is a Tour de France junkie. I was in the Jet Fuel yesterday morning with my father (it's his local; I envy his ability to get on friendly terms with everybody in a place in under 5 minutes). They're showing it (the Tour) on TV since it (the Jet Fuel) is the preferred caffeine provider of seemingly every bike courier and racer in the city. Witnessed Lance Armstrong's dramatic spill (you should've heard the yell that went up) and comeback, v. cool. John the owner had on a black T-shirt with "Team Satan" on the front and a little bicycle with "Two wheels... One Dark Lord" on the back.
And that's all, more later. Probably.

Date: 2003-07-23 07:37 am (UTC)The Jet Fuel's a coffee shop with all the attributes of a pub, except with a giant espresso machine instead of beer taps. Very cool place. (Great tragedy the day they decided to raise the price on their giant lattes -- they come in pint glasses -- from $2 to $3, but it's still far better value than Starbucks.) Oh, and bike-obsessed. They would never, ever miss a Tour de France.
