Saturday I took myself to lunch at the Claremont and wandered around the used bookstore (they have a stack of the latest Harry Potter for $21.95 Canadian if anyone's in need) and read a lot (including The Salmon of Doubt, which is wonderful and made me very sad all over again that Douglas Adams died). Saturday night I spent ages getting to sleep -- my brain seemed determined to bring up things that make me sad and/or upset and/or angry, like my dog dying and The Crush That Shall Not Be Named, and I wasn't remotely tired, so I kept on getting up and trying to tidy and getting sort of tired and going back to bed and starting the whole cycle over. Ugh.

Sunday I slept latish (no wonder) and tidied (not completely, but enough to feel that I'm well on the way to a tidy apartment for the first time since I went to Scotland -- some weeks "slatternly" is the only way to describe me). Then I did accounts. YEEEARGH. I am Poor, and my line of credit is definitely getting above itself. Strict fiscal diet for me from here on in. No more frivolous spending of any description and I shall live on bread and water. (OK, not quite that bad, but I shall think quite hard before buying expensive cheese.) I've put my credit cards away and will try to operate on a cash-only basis from here on in (take out a certain sum at the beginning of the week and when it's gone, it's gone).

On the plus side, merger and consequent restoration of our salaries means I will have slightly more disposable income to be going on with as of next paycheque. Slightly.

Wandered out of the apartment rather late this morning, bus was rather slow especially around my stop; finally got off to discover a line of riot police blocking off St-Laurent (luckily in the opposite direction to the one I was going in). GAAH. All to do with the WTO protest I suppose. This may sound reactionary, but could these protestors not find some more effective way to get their message across than by smashing other people's cars?

(ETA: that said, the fact that the arrestees are apparently being charged with "participating in an illegal demonstration" makes me very queasy. Illegal how?)

1) Knowing the general anti-WTO forces, they likely did not have a permit for the demonstration: ie, to impede traffic and block streets. Political demonstrations need event permits just like everyone else.

2) Cool about your salary. Wanna come to Scapercon? ;] I've virtually maxed the $10,000 credit card which is making me very tense. Fiscal diet for me as well, starting when I get back from Chicago. Argh.

3) Y'know, if you're feeling insomniacal and crazy, you can always call. It's not like I'm gonna be asleep before you. Well, it's very unlikely that I'll be asleep before you.

4) Was discussing The Crush? That Shall Not Be Named with Thea on e-mail Friday. Suffice to say that thinking 'pon it only made me feel more confused and uneasy than just repressing all my feelings on the subject altogether.

5) I hate the Jazzfest and my outside e-mail is either down or everyone is ignoring me which is equally displeasing.

6) Have a good day, champ.

4. I think I may need some info here. I am on email, and am curious! So. SPILL.

5. I emailed you, re: Farscape Buttons. Did you get it? (About 9 AM my time, I think).

Sorry to hear that. I had one of those nights last night, despite three glasses of wine in the evening. I was still wide awake at 4 am when [livejournal.com profile] mr_weasel arrived home from GenCon. At least you didn't have to work the next day.

Yay! Focus on the positive (I'm channelling my mom again). My advice on the credit cards: Freeze them in water in tupperware container. You can still get them if you need them, but they're inconvenient to thaw on a whim.

Nope. Looks like the Premier is reading my e-mail again.

1) Ah, that makes sense. Still, it was VERY unnerving to see that many helmeted, shielded riot cops, not to mention at least 10 Minivans of Justice...

2) Argh.

3) Thanks, but it was 3 in the morning and I thought it was best not to push my luck, given the Dogfood Episode.

4) What [livejournal.com profile] raithen said.

5) I emailed you back, and haven't had anything bounce, but there's still time.

6) Thanks!

I sorry -- that all happened at the start of my last vacation when I wasn't online, and by the time I got back it seemed like old news. I still have to post my vacation report...

1) Finish tidying, filing, etc.

2) CV. (*virtuous look*)

3) Count Farscape postcards so I know how many stamps I need to buy.

The three glasses of wine might've contributed to the problem. That sucks.

Thanks for advice re: credit cards, also for postcards (I LOVED the one with the cactus!). You're spoiling me!
