Argh. This story, snurched from a link in officialgaiman, is possibly the first story of hers I've read all the way through; it certainly does go to prove she's a twit. Twit, twit, twit.

I think she may be the avatar of normalacy that makes me damn near wet my bed out of sheer stark terror late at night when I remember all the silly Star Trek, Star Wars, RPG, Sci-Fi and sundry trivia that I have stored somewhere in my brain.

I really do hope that she was being somewhat facetious cause that was just ignorant and mean. I hope her editor gets a very nasty case of gout or something for sending such a bitch to maintain those kinds of stereotypes about geeks.

You know, this is R. Feckless's schtick, eh? They always send her somewhere she'd never be caught dead. Or else she stays at home and paints her toenails or something.

The problem is that the "innocent abroad" approach can be very effective for showing an under-know sub culture to the masses, but Eckler's pieces are so about Eckler, that I would imagine only people who are exactly like her (and I don't think there are that many) could really get much use out of her columns.

That's why Leah McLaren is and will always be my girl.
