Dec. 11th, 2003 09:55 amToday's news is just a perfect illustration of how life in Quebec can be simultaneously wonderful and maddening.
Now I am in general pretty pro-union. I think they do an important job of protecting workers' rights (even though I myself have never had a union job). However:
- Bullying tactics like shutting down daycares and disrupting transit service are NOT going to win you any friends; and
- We did just vote in a Liberal government who said they were going to do this, OK? So get a grip.
Weather is crappy today.

Date: 2003-12-11 07:52 am (UTC)Amazing how the province can outlive the PQ, but not outlive the PQ mentality. I thought this through once, and it really quite incredible how nothing has changed in the last 200 years in Quebec. The same people think the same tired old thoughts, and yet it doesn't get old.
For the record, I want 5 dollar an hour daycare. I want to live like money doesn't matter, cause I'm poor. I am not sure that the Liberals can give that to me. But, I think that the will of the people has to come before the will of the unions. Shame that the unions don't agree.

Date: 2003-12-11 07:55 am (UTC)A-MEN!
Things at the Children's are wonkier than usual today. We've workers out marching, and the rest are either rushing to deal with overflow or wearing union badges and looking defiant. We've a hospital christmas party starting in a few minutes so this ought to be interesting.
