Dec. 23rd, 2003 10:16 amHm. So, of the tasks I need to accomplish, I've managed... um... two. The party was a lot of fun although it significantly impaired my ability to get to the conference call. But I made it.
Hey, not bad!
Actually I showed up far too early for the party (at the Reservoir, which is a fine little brewpub I'm going to have to come back to -- who's coming to visit me next?) because Iain had never got around to telling me what time it was. Luckily, being from Toronto, I am nearly always early for Montreal parties, or I would be if my chronic lateness didn't neatly cancel that out. So I wasn't sure if I'd missed them or what (thought not, but you never know), but I sat at the bar and drank a pint of Scotch Ale, and then thought "what the hell, I'll stay a little longer" (beer has a wonderful mellowing effect that way) and ordered a glass of bitter and a plate of black bean chili, and I had just finished the chili and was contemplating leaving when Iain came in. Greeted him with great delight and moved over to the table. Eve liked her present (The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents -- she hasn't read it yet, yay!) and that was all good, but I didn't know TOO many people and was just starting to fidget and think "well this is nice, but these people next to me are awfully silent" when the boys (JS, Mike, Dave, Gary) walked in. After that it was a riotous evening all round and I didn't leave until about 1:30 (which is why I didn't call
raithen back -- sorry hon!). We even sang, which is traditional. Had a nice chat with Eve (which was the point of the evening after all) and was very glad I went.
ETA: And! When I got home (by taxi because I've never bothered figuring out the night bus system) there was a postcard from
mrs_cake waiting for me! Thanks so much!
And now I have stuff to do... I'm mildly headachy but the bagel helped.
