Christmas was merry. Christmas Eve lobster at my cousins, Steve and Patti and their two kids (who have suddenly become adorable rather than annoying and/or painfully shy -- guess that's what happens when you only see them once a year). Christmas Day brunch with my mum's side of the family. Dinner with my dad's side at our place for the first time ever -- my father is very pleased because this means we get the leftover turkey. It was very good, although late, and if we do it again next year I'll have to bring crackers because I missed them.

Present-giving went well -- I have been much spoiled and people seemed very pleased with what I got them, so the anguish was worth it. Storage options figured very prominently in my prezzies: sort-of toolboxes from my parents ([livejournal.com profile] raithen, if you're still looking for grooming kit boxes, you should have a look at these, they rock), a footstool/chest from my grandmother, and a highly-equipped knitting bag from J (for which I gather I have [livejournal.com profile] crankygrrl and [livejournal.com profile] raithen's good advice to thank, so thank you girls, it is wonderful!).

Boxing Day I was felled by illness, some 48-hour bug which I'm nearly over. Yay for drugs. Lolled about in bed reading Asterix, P.G. Wodehouse and Georgette Heyer until I felt better.

Currently messing with my dad's computer, which is giving him fits although in perfectly OK working order. Need to figure out some way to make security and updates as painless as possible for him, because alerts and dialog boxes of any kind throw him into fits. I've installed the trial version of ZoneAlarm but I have a horrid feeling the best solution to the firewall issue may be to hook the router back up, and I don't know how to make it work with Sympatico and I don't wanna. Perhaps tomorrow I will feel stronger.

Various vague plans for the rest of the week. What does one wear to a Vegas party?

I vote for a rhinestone-studded Elvis jumpsuit. :)

I actually have one! Black velour with bellbottoms and a rhinestone belt. Sadly, I have yet to find a place to wear it.

If I had one I'd wear it all the time. To the grocery store, for example. ;)

Asterix, P.G. Wodehouse and Georgette Heyer

I cannot believe that any other human being has this set of books in their house.

We have a nearly complete collection of Asterix, a large and growing collection of Wodehouse, and some Heyer. (Although Heyer is my family's obsession, not mine.)

We've got those. Tintin and Dick Francis, too.

Yay!

My collection of Asterix is far from complete although I believe it used to be larger -- seems to have shrunk during our many moves. But the Heyer collection is complete.

Something with feathers.

On second thought, how about just feathers?

Psst. Sympatico High-Speed or Dialup? If it's a linksys, they run smooth with very few problems with DSL, and whenever Issues appear, need only be unplugged and re-plugged to work correctly (how Virus was eventually detected and then terminated).

Sympatico High-Speed.

I may give it a shot. If I can find the damn router, that is. You should see this office...

you realize you have just been elected troubleshooter-in-chief, right?

*expletive!* Noooo, not that! Anything but that! *fuss. Fuss-fuss. Kick. Scream.* I'll do what I can. I meant if it's a linksys router - they also have an excellent tech support library online (which is sort of ironic if you can't get there to start with).

dress as a tourist. first, put on 50 pounds, then let it all hang out from a spandex tube top.

alternatively, loud shirt, shorts, sandals (with socks?), sunglasses, and zinc oxide on your nose

Heh. To a vegas party, I think you should dress as a Crime Scene Investigator with an umbrella and a plastic palm tree.
This is on account of all the rain Vegas supposedly got during seasons 1&2 of CSI.

That could work well...

Asterix is da bomb! Hard to find in the good olde us thou... A lot of people here have never heard of him... Shame really, beats the hell out of a mouse any day.
