Reading Mrs. Jordan's Profession, which I bought for $2.99 remaindered when visiting [livejournal.com profile] raithen. It's great, but is making me very grateful for modern innovations like, e.g., birth control and women's rights. I don't think I'd make a good time traveller; I'm too fond of:

indoor plumbing (although they were starting to install baths and showers)
effective dentistry, optometry/ophthalmology, and anesthesia
the germ theory of disease, along with sterile technique and antibiotics
the vote

yep. those are good things.
