It's 9 a.m. and I'm in the office! Wow. (Blame heat-induced insomnia.)

Trip was good. We survived the screaming children on the plane in both directions, including a drama-laden moment on the way back when one of them was in the bathroom. (There's nothing quite like being told by a flight attendant after you've been strapped in your seat for an hour that "If anyone is out of their seat while we're on an active runway I will have to tell the captain and we'll lose our takeoff priority.") Landed in Philadelphia around 4:30, got our rental car and went driving around for a bit (past a massive Howard Dean rally among other things). I love South Street! There was this fabulous courtyard completely covered in mosaic tile and found sculpture, not to mention Harry's Occult Supplies (serving you since 1917). Really wish I'd had my camera with me, when will I learn?

Meeting went well, mostly content stuff. Didn't get much done yesterday but I think it's going to be a fun project.

Bell repairperson coming tonight, have to leave early.

Can anyone tell me why I can buy orange juice containing EITHER pulp OR calcium, but not both? I want both, dammit!

hmmmm.

Furthermore, Rob said this yesterday:

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): After studying the cosmic omens, I realized I'd be unable to glean your oracle until I was standing on holy ground. I left immediately for Spirit Rock Meditation Center, a Buddhist sanctuary near my home. There I sought out the outdoor prayer wheel, a brightly painted wooden cylinder inscribed with noble phrases like "wise speech" and "wise intention." Buddhists believe that when this ritual device is spun on its axis, spiritual blessings are cast in all directions. As I reached for one of the handles to give it a whirl, I spied an awesome sight: Four salamanders had arrayed themselves on the section of the wheel that read "wise livelihood." I knew I'd found my message for you, Scorpio. This week, do everything possible to get closer to making your money by serving your highest ideals.

Astrological omen alert, Batman!

The Bell guy left half an hour ago. He has to come back in the morning to replace the wiring -- he seemed quite surprised that my phones had been working as well as they have -- but he fixed it for now.

Ultimate frustration, I have discovered, consists of having power, but no modem, during a widespread emergency.

Reading over my previous entry, I think it's probably worth mentioning (like it wasn't obvious) that I'm a crisis junkie. Nothing I like better than a good emergency. How does one acquire a career in disaster preparedness?
