...where did the week go?

Did quite a lot of grumping about how water is not supposed to look like it's congealing on the way down the hill from the gym last night. Well, there were quantities of almost-freezing rain hitting my head -- I hate that. I guess it heard me, 'cause it's beautiful (and rather cold) today.

Must finish Christmas cards, do Christmas shopping, get rid of my car... actually my list of Things To Do has barely changed since Monday. Argh. Bright spot in the week: the store called about my table. They still don't have it, but they're thinking it'll come in today or Monday.

Weekend is rapidly filling up with parties. Which is terrific and I'm glad to be in town for them... I'm just wondering when the hell I'm going to get everything done. It is really wildly ungrateful of me to complain about not having enough spare time since I moved back, isn't it? So I will stop.

Went over to Cousin J's to watch the Lost pilot (she hadn't seen it) and keep her company while she baked. She makes me feel like kind of a slacker in the Christmas department. When I have furniture, I'll do better. Any excuse in a storm.

I wonder if my mother bought extension cords and curtain rods for me? I guess if I listened to my messages, I might find out...

There's nothing more calculated to get me out of the Christmas spirit than that "song" whose chorus goes something like:

"Simply, ha-aving, a wonderful Christmas time.
Simply, ha-aving, a wonderful Christmas time."

And it repeats and repeats and repeats AND REPEATS until I want to scream. And there's synthesizer music. The singer sounds like he has a range of maybe half an octave and the whole effect is vaguely British boy-band, although I may be doing British boy-bands an injustice there.

[ETA: [livejournal.com profile] tylerpistol and [livejournal.com profile] calebbullen tell me it's Paul McCartney and Wings. Grrrrrrr to Paul McCartney and Wings, I say!]

Anyway, if you get a Christmas card from me that seems a little random, that'll probably be why.

In much happier news, our project manager had her baby yesterday! A little early. It's a 6-lb girl. We are all quite excited.

It seems to be the Day of Responses. So far I've received an article summary I asked for a couple of weeks ago, answers to a set of questions I asked a MONTH ago (and I'd been trying to chase this doctor down for a good month before that) and the following from a nice doctor in Finland:

Dear [me],
I can at once send you a modest copy of that paper. May be you appreciate it more thatn a beeter one a bit later.

Merry Christmas!
I call that perfectly charming. And he sent it to me all of about 2 minutes after I sent the begging email -- I'd been looking for some information and it looks like this guy's paper has exactly what I need, only no university library in Canada appears to carry the journal in question (I believe I ranted about this a few days ago).

So. Good things happening!

See, things like this are why I sometimes think I'm going mad.
