More on boy books
Jun. 1st, 2005 01:26 pmI take it back. The gender divide in reading continues into adulthood. Well, according to one limited sample, anyway. I dunno. Is this broadly applicable? What's the last book you read? And are you male or female?
Here is an annoyingly breezy Telegraph article that attempts to Explain It All.
Playboy once published an Ursula K. Le Guin short story under the name "U.K. Le Guin" -- something about their readers being intimidated or nervous or bored by female writers. I mocked when I learned this, but it sounds like they were onto something.

Jun. 1st, 2005 05:27 pmUgh. All my horoscopes this week are predicting DOOOM. I have a million little details for the house, Toronto Trek, and work that I'm worrying about, which is stupid -- I KNOW I just need to work through all my tasks one step at a time and they will work out, there is nothing truly disastrous on the horizon, and yet I keep thinking about the big picture and getting overwhelmed. I'm sick of having every tiny perceived setback or new task throw me into a tailspin. And yet and yet and yet, they do.

Anyway, off to my mum's concert.
