electricland: (house plan)
I actually got this before I left work yesterday but I was feeling dispirited (still am, a bit, although that could be hangover), so did not post.

Today for lunch we had penne with sausage in a rose sauce with vodka, and cucumber salad.

Stuart and Gill brought Michelle M-D'A to see the house. She said it is a wonderful house and she had been through similar renovation experiences in Chamonix and Fontainebleau. (Somehow, that doesn't sound quite like the same, especially for someone who owns an apartment in the 16th.*)

Stuart has finished the third floor floor and it no longer squeaks and looks good.

Dan worked on vapour barrier and came for lunch looking, as he said, like the creature from the black lagoon.

Gary the Plumber came and critiqued the plastic plumbing. The bad news is that there are a number of small faults to fix and a major fix needed in the vent on the second floor bathroom.** The good news is that John and Dan have a fiendishly clever scheme to fix it.*** I believe this will involve a box to cover the pipe as it goes across--or an angled piece of drywall--but this is not as complicated as cutting 2" wedges in rafter beams, or running something up the wall. John is making a list of plubming parts and connectors.

Your friend, Helen.

PS. Jen said: A guy named Jay, a friend of our webmaster, may give Dad call to discuss drywall finishing, perhaps sometime tomorrow.
*No kidding.

**DAMMIT! Ah well. 2 steps forward, 1 back.

***But that's good.

Jen and I are going to do our bit for the cause and put up vapour barrier this evening before Veronica Mars.

Just sent this. I feel much better now.

Dear CBC:

First, welcome back. I've missed you. I was very strong-minded during the lockout and did not watch or listen to CBC radio or TV, because that would have been Bad and Wrong.

But second, why are you trying so hard to make me so crazy? This Is Wonderland's official site (www.thisiswonderland.com) tells me that Season 3 is starting Wednesday, November 23 at 8 p.m. However, both your TV schedule and George Stromboulopoulos tell me that The Nature of Things will be airing in that slot now and forever, amen. Your This Is Wonderland page (www.cbc.ca/wonderland) is still showing information for Season 2. I watched Season 2. It was good. It started LAST JANUARY, i.e. 9 months ago if you're counting.

I love the show. It's a great show. I would like to recommend it to other people, but it would really help if I knew for sure when it was going to be on.

(And by the way, waiting until the Friday before the season premiere to launch a new site the way you did for Da Vinci's City Hall? Will not be helpful either.)

Much love,

me

COOL!

I'm not actually sure I can improve on what [livejournal.com profile] doombookshelves has to say about this:

This might actually be the coolest thing that I've ever seen.

For real. The coolest thing ever. Go and look at the pictures.

From the BBC:

The Camel Mobile Library was set up by the government-owned Kenya National Library Service to improve literacy rates in the north-east.
They're bookmobiles! But they're camels! Oh my god, cool-o-sity of this is overwhelming! (As is my complete and total overuse of exclamation points!)
I mean, seriously. That is just amazingly awesome.
