I'm not actually sure I can improve on what [livejournal.com profile] doombookshelves has to say about this:

This might actually be the coolest thing that I've ever seen.

For real. The coolest thing ever. Go and look at the pictures.

From the BBC:

The Camel Mobile Library was set up by the government-owned Kenya National Library Service to improve literacy rates in the north-east.
They're bookmobiles! But they're camels! Oh my god, cool-o-sity of this is overwhelming! (As is my complete and total overuse of exclamation points!)
I mean, seriously. That is just amazingly awesome.

That is the most amazing thing ever. Where can we send them money? Sponsor a female camel of breeding age?

I remember reading (in Isaac Asimov's "Book of Facts") that there was a rich bibiliophilic sultan who insisted on travelling with his entire library. He ended up with over 400 camels loaded with books. On each was a librarian tasked with knowing the contents of all the books on their camel, so when he wanted to find a particular passage, he could just call out what he wanted and one of his librarians could bring it immediately to hand.
