jewels of great price
Jun. 12th, 2007 05:43 pmI'm wearing one of my oldest necklaces today. It's a white stone heart pendant on a leather thong, with some brass beads on either side of the pendant. It fits like a choker, a necklace length I find very comforting for some reason. I was given it by a friend of my parents -- who, I don't remember now -- when I was about nine. At the time, being a nine-year-old girl and fond of sparkly things, I never wore it, nor much of the other odd dull wood and stone and metal jewelry I was given here and there; I thought it was boring and I probably found it heavy. Now I love it.
What I did wear a lot in those days was this. I lost track of it somewhere along the way, like so much of my stuff (especially jewelry -- it's always the pieces you love and wear a lot that vanish). So I'm delighted to see that the Met still sells it. Perhaps I need to get one again, for old times' sake.
