I'm wearing one of my oldest necklaces today. It's a white stone heart pendant on a leather thong, with some brass beads on either side of the pendant. It fits like a choker, a necklace length I find very comforting for some reason. I was given it by a friend of my parents -- who, I don't remember now -- when I was about nine. At the time, being a nine-year-old girl and fond of sparkly things, I never wore it, nor much of the other odd dull wood and stone and metal jewelry I was given here and there; I thought it was boring and I probably found it heavy. Now I love it.

What I did wear a lot in those days was this. I lost track of it somewhere along the way, like so much of my stuff (especially jewelry -- it's always the pieces you love and wear a lot that vanish). So I'm delighted to see that the Met still sells it. Perhaps I need to get one again, for old times' sake.

clearly this calls for a trip to New York...

It's funny but I have actually managed to hang onto almost all the jewelry I've been given over the years. Probably because it's never got shoved in a box and put in storage -- at least not for long! It generally moves with me when I move, and in fact a lot of it lives in a leather box from Africa which also brings back memories. The stuff I lost I do regret -- a great earring, a sort of sterling silver swoop around a purple bead, and a silver bracelet my aunt and uncle gave me. (The store that came from is in my neighbourhood; I keep meaning to go in and see if they can replicate it for me one of these days.)

the lost stuff seems to stay with us on some level i think. i had a bracelet my parents got me in florence....*sigh*

and i love the idea of seeing what can be replicated. er, not in an sg-1 replicator kind of way though, ok? *hugs*

I was horrible with loosing stuff when I was a kid.. come to think of it, I'm not so great with not loosing stuff as an adult :(

The read heart necklace is really nice and I am tempted to buy one as well! Hmm... love hearts... check. Love the colour red... check. Yep, my opinion is probably biased, but you should replace the lost necklace!

All righty then, it's unanimous! New York here I come!

As I say, it's always the stuff I love and wear all the time that gets lost. The stuff that sits at home in a drawer never seems to go anywhere. Boo.
