Well, not altogether gratuitous. I propose to use this for commentary on American political affairs, since I've been feeling like a bit of an impostor, and this way it'll be quite clear where I'm coming from. Besides, this way [livejournal.com profile] wanderingaengus won't need to remind me every time. ;)

Hey, cool icon. Can you make me one of those that says "Catholic Socialist Liberal?" Or maybe "Catholic Commie Bastard," as I'm not godless, merely interpretationally-challenged. *hee* ;]

would "wooly-headed liberal" do you?

Although I do quite like Catholic Commie Bastard. Hm.

Oooh, how about "Papist Commie Bastard"? I really like Godless Pinko Commie but it just doesn't translate perfectly into my headspace...

"Papist" is good, but I think "mackerel-snapper" is my favorite epithet. I could make myself a "Lapsed Mackerel-Snapping Democratic Socialist SOB" icon.

I looooooove "Papist", although not as much as "Popery" (which suuggests a pleasing odour).

How about "Pro-Popery Trotskyite Apparatchik"?

Maybe you could get a few, to change depending on your mood.

"interpretationally-challenged"

So, are you one of those "Brights" they keep writing about in Skeptic? (Trying to figure whether you're godless, or just Godless).

Lately, from the book reviews I've skimmed, I think I might be down with this whole Pagan Christ/might as well worship Horus scene.

Er. I have no clue. Mostly I was just reacting against this story (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1802&ncid=716&e=17&u=/washpost/20040426/ts_washpost/a41964_2004apr25), which [livejournal.com profile] lawgeekgurl posted (http://www.livejournal.com/users/lawgeekgurl/301783.html) the other day. Care to enlighten me as to what the heck you're talking about?

I think "bright" was meant to be a kind of big-tent-yet-specific term meant to encompass people who do not believe in gods, spirits, or supernatural forces of any kind, while not necessarily thinking (as "secular humanists" are alleged to) that all such beliefs are both crutch and hurdle to human development.

I remember you claiming to be a kind of lapsed animist a while ago, and thought maybe you had converted to full-on godlessness.

And I think (neo) pagans are more likely to get up their nose lately than the merely Godless. But it don' have the same ring, now, dard it?

Oh! And if you really want to get into some nasal spelunking, you should add "with an agenda" to your icon.

Endtimers can't stand people with daytimers.

Then I'd have to animate the damn thing, and I'm too lazy. But I like it:

NASAL SPELUNKING

...

GODLESS

PINKO

COMMIE

...

WITH AN AGENDA

Wouldn't "atheist" work just as well?

Aren't you people a state yet? Haven't we annexed you? Don't worry, we'll let you vote. Diebold will be shipping you your new voting machines any day now.

And don't worry if you don't recognize the politicians names and parties. The Supreme Court will help you out if you have any trouble deciding to vote for George Bush.

I think we should be able to send you some Elections Canada types to help out. (http://www.elections.ca/content.asp?section=gen&document=ec90770&dir=bkg&lang=e&textonly=false) I'm sure you'd qualify for funding.

I've worked for the elections. Several times. But I'm not going down there.
