GETTING IN BUSH'S FAITH
Christian Leaders Challenge Bush Environmental Policy

For a leader who has so explicitly taken on the mantle of the Christian faith, it's an awkward development: On Earth Day last week, more than 100 reverends, ministers, and bishops representing more than 2 million American churchgoers sent a letter to the White House condemning President Bush's environmental record. Cassandra Carmichael of the National Council of Churches, which organized the campaign, said, "This was a Christian-to-Christian letter. We have a president who aligns himself with the Christian community, so as Christians we feel he needs to take a good hard look at the Bible and begin abiding by its principles." Read about the intra-faith dustup in Muckraker -- today on the Grist Magazine website.

Interesting development, though I suspect it falls on deaf ears at the White House. After all, the puppet-in-charge has two factions pulling his strings. The first (his donors) want the biggest return on their investment they can get before the well runs dry (ie, after Nov 2004 or 2008, depending on how Americans vote this year). The second (Ashcroft and crew) just want to hasten Armageddon and the Rapture. The two wings seem to be doing a great job of helping each other at the moment.
