I have absolutely no proof to it, seeing as it is my opinion, but I wouldn't doubt that Dr. Hager is fully supporting this.

Argh.

Where can I get a T-shirt that says "Keep your personal opinions out of my body"?

Actually that would cover an awful lot of bases.

Damn, when you find that t-shirt, point me in the right direction, I want one, too.

that's horrifying, but i heard about it long enough ago that it's not freaking me out so much - and as i recall, the pharmacist i heard about was fired or disciplined or something...but the bit that really freaks me out is that some doctors are starting to refuse to prescribe. ooga. it makes me relieved that i am a) very close to a planned parenthood office b) living in a pretty liberal area c) have scheduled sterilization already and didn't have to fight to do so, like many women tell stories about at the best of times.

it's pretty polarizing and action inspiring.

Grrrrrrr.

More details here (http://www.prevention.com/article/0,,s1-1-93-35-4130-1,00.html), incidentally.

Also, yes, you are very lucky in all those things -- and why the hell should you have to be lucky?

I had a roommate in university whose family doctor (in Smiths Falls) was Catholic, and thus would not perscribe birth control pills. This girl was, in fact, NOT sexually active, but would spent 24-48 hours VOMITTING every time she got her period. And even though she was at school in Guelph, where any doctor would have perscribed her the pill or SOMETHING to try to control that, her doctor had clearly transmitted to her some kind of fear/shame regarding the pill... she said she didn't want to try it because she didn't want to "mess with her hormones" (my thinking? Hey, they started it. It's on, yo). I mean, we used to have to plan parties around whether or not it would be a roommate-is-vomitting weekend.

Of course, when she got engaged and started sleeping with her fiance, she went on the pill right quick...

Oh when I was living in NE, a friend of my ex had to find a new Dr because her's wouldn't giver her a Rx for the pill. And this tops the lot I think, an OB GYN would refuse tube tying, or any other form of birth control. Back in England, both these Dr's would be struck off the register for putting thier own beliefs before that of the Pt's wishes...

At the very LEAST, pass the request on to someone else!

even that doesn't justify putting your own beliefs infront of that of your pt. IMO anyway.

Well at least we know they listened when we said, "Emergency Contraception is NOT an abortion. It's the same thing as the pill, how can you be against EC and not the pill"

Well, they were half-listening anyway. This culture war is only going to get worse before it gets better. Everybody hold on tight.
