I'm back!

Mexico was beautiful. I have a very light tan. I also have stones from the beach and small bottles of tequila. I'm two-thirds of the way through Fear and Loathing in America: The Brutal Odyssey of an Outlaw Journalist, which I'm enjoying very much (go figure that the first thing I've ever read of HST's would be vol. 2 of his collected correspondence). raithen and I have very different travelling styles but you'll be glad to hear we are, in fact, still friends. I have now seen the full moon over the Pacific. And pelicans. Lots and lots of pelicans. And a spotted eagle ray. The vegetation reminded me of Kenya -- bougainvillea, hibiscus, banana trees. We got quite good at the scary buses of Puerto Vallarta. It's a total tourist town but still manages to have loads of charm. Bodysurfing is fun. We did a lot of hanging out on the beach. Bliss.

The office did not explode while I was gone. In fact, nothing seems to have happened at all, other than my journal subscription inbox getting ever more full.

I still have no sofa.

This may be the year when we finally come face to face with ourselves; finally just lay back and say it -- that we are really just a nation of 220 million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns, and no qualms at all about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.

of course. But my employers are here. And they are less forthcoming with the praise than yours. They are in the "we will now be annoying" phase of the project. Which generally preempts the all-out-panic phase. *sigh*

hrmm. I am single focused. Will think about nice things. Like beaches. And eagle rays. But not snow....

The idea of it being warm in November anywhere in the world still stikes me as down right strange. Glad to hear you found your way safely through the public transport down there :)

If you need any help assembling or moving couches you know where to find more than a few people who will work for beer. :P

hey, it's spring down in the southern hemisphere! And thank goodness for warm weather in Novemeber. Even if I cannot be there, just knowing it exists makes life here more bearable...

But it is a wonder no one falls out of the open bus doors on the crowded buses. *Scary*

It is weird to think Christmas is only a month away. We've surreal plans to open presents on the beach ;-)

All the Christmas cards are traditional though - House with chimney covered in snow, Santa with prezzies on a sleigh with snow etc - there are no cards that feature Santa on the beach that haven't been cheaply photoshopped. Even in Dubai they have Camel Xmas cards (a close shot of a camel grin with Ho Ho Ho down the side). I was really surprised.

It would be nice to see snow for a day or two, but it never works that way, does it? It must be beautiful though ;-)

Last night's The Amazing Race (my first ep ever) featured a challenge involving IKEA furniture. (You could either count 2,304 small objects or build a desk. A surprising number of people decided to count. They soon discovered their mistake.) We laughed...

my trip to puerto vallarta: i was staying at one of the "best" resorts on the ocean (actually my room did have it's own bathing pool on the deck) where i got so sick it lasted (you know what i mean) for about three weeks. i drank only bottled water and ate fruit with the skin on, etc, etc, etc. i was body surfing on the beach, and when i turned toward the water, there was a wave about 10 feet over my head within steps of me. that's when i saw my first moon over the pacific, and her bikini trunks were making their way toward australia.

Unexpected hazards of bodysurfing!

Our waves didn't get that high (which is why raithen was having trouble with them -- she's used to bigger waves. I had no preconceptions and am roughly dolphin-shaped, so I did great).

Hearing this story, though, I'm glad I wore one-piece suits. ;)

Isn't is nice nothing blew up? I hate coming back with more work than you left with - you need a vacation from the vacation aftermath ... and that can snowball out of control.
